Drop Top Customs Converts Hardtop Camaros into T-Tops

Jalopnik featured our good friends at Drop Top Customs today in an article about the new Chevrolet Camaro’s conspicuous lack of a T-Top option. As the article states, “They’re ridiculous and sorta vulgar and they leak and rattle, but they’re so damn cool.”

We couldn’t agree more and we’re are happy to see the guys at Drop Top Customs getting the press they deserve for their noble work. They specialize in turning hardtop vehicles into convertibles. Looks like they can add T-Top to their growing list of specialties.

2010 Camaro With T-Tops or is it a Trans Am?

We started prototyping the T-tops and should be finished next week as in July 16th. We will have several versions at Sema this year. It will be available in Glass and special limited edition carbon fiber. This isn’t just cutting the roof out. All T-Top cars come with the same understructure support we currently use in the convertible. So go ahead and add a supercharger. You know you want one!

We recently finished shooting footage for the first few episodes on the new TV show Modern HotrodZ. What exciting times these are. We have police chases, pretty girls, and Charlie Murphy. TV is very different from building cars.

The first couple of episodes are a joint build with The King, Richard Petty. We are building the first Petty Garage convertible in Petty Blue. Of course it will have the Arrington racing engine as well as a number of other Mods that Petty’s Garage is known for. I will be heading up to North Carolina in a few weeks to finish the build with The King himself. WOW!

Stay tuned as we shoot more episodes including George Barris and others. And look for the TV show coming soon.

Jeffrey Moran is capitalizing on one of the simplest formulas for business success: Pick a product people desperately want, then do a first-class job delivering it to them. Moran owns Drop Top Customs by Convertible Builders, a company that takes hard-top cars for which there aren’t convertible models and turns them into aftermarket ragtops for car owners who love to ride with the top down.
“We’re pretty much the only people doing this,” he says. “It gives [customers] something they can’t get anywhere else.”

The High Springs business is considered one of the premier conversion companies, with clients in the U.S. and overseas. Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders and Dan Aykroyd are just a few of its clients in this country. Moran’s crew also built a four-door Cadillac convertible given to the King of Thailand for his 79th birthday and a white Chrysler 300 conversion that greeted Pope Benedict XVI when he landed in the Republic of Cameroon last year.
The company started as Coach Builders in 1976. Moran’s father, Larry, has worked for the business since 1982 and Moran joined in 2003 after retiring from the Broward Police Department. He bought the business in 2008.
